Assembling a 442 squad

Yeah, some people say it is the most predictable formation for opponents, but if you´re not a skilled player, this formation will help a lot for starting a squad and get some wins. This is the most classical formation, and is the default formation for any FUT Squad.

Using this formation you will have a good defense system and a good attack also. You will need good wings and midfields to help attack. And you can always change to  4-4-2(2) if facing a stronger opponent, or if you want to hold a result.

In my opinion, 442 makes a little more difficult to score against strong defensive opponent, but I use some player characteristics to help to enter through defense and score some goals. Yes, I´m not a 5 x 0 in all matches player, but a 2 x 0 or 1 x 0 win  is more than good to me. Just to have an idea I´m now at online Division 2, and got the title of every previous division unless the 5th.

So let´s go back to team formation. Work rates are really important to assemble a good squad. It´s is ignored for the big part of FUT players.  Let me talk a little about that:

I know it may seem a little bit obviously to some of you, but it helped me a lot. Basically, wings helps attack, but one also have good defensive rate to help to avoid your opponent to goes easy through your field.  You can also change the wings sides (using quick tactics to adjust to your opponent squad).  The same happens with yours midfields, one to hold and help defensively and the other one to join attack. To avoid to open one side of your midfield,  if your right winger goes to attack more often, then your CM-R should stay a little bit more. If you use your CM-L to help attack, have a good LM to help defending midfield.

The CBs should have a good pace (FUT still a “pacey” game), but also need to be strong. Strength became more important at FUT 14.  You can also use some players with “Dive into tackles” trait. As I´m not good enough, it helps a lot when defending. Not only for CB, but also for others position.  Height is an important attribute also for center backs. Heading is more than overpowered at this year edition so you need to avoid to concede head goals. Height and Heading are for that. You can change height for jumping, for example in the case of players like Thiago Silva.  They also help on corners and you can score important goals with them.

Talking about traits and attributes, one I like a lot is “Early Crosser” for wings and for right or left backs. Also high aggression rate to midfields is helpful. Strength for at least one Striker may help a lot.

You can also change tactics to adjust to the one you fit better and a “free formation” could help to open defenses, but that is for another post.

Will update this post soon.
